Els charges, putting heat on Scott at British Open
LYTHAM ST. ANNES, England (AP) Ernie Els has made a late change at the British Open, shooting a 2-under 68 that sends him to the clubhouse just one stroke behind leader Adam Scott during a final round when most of the other contenders faded away.
Els rolled in a 15-foot birdie putt at the 72nd hole to put the pressure on Scott, who appeared to have it all wrapped up when he made a birdie at the 14th to push his score to 10 under.
But Scott followed with back-to-back bogeys, missing a 3-footer at the 16th that opened the door for Els. The three-time major champion rolled in his birdie for a 7-under 273, then went to the practice range in case his score was good enough for a playoff.
