Round 3 delayed at Congressional
Bethesda, MD (Sports Network) - Due to severe storms that occurred overnight, the PGA Tour announced that the third round of the AT&T National has been delayed.
In fact, the event might not resume until Sunday.
Winds of 70-80 mph winds hit Congressional Country Club Friday night. Trees and tents were down all over course and power has been knocked out on the property.
The third round was scheduled to begin at 7:10 a.m. (et) Saturday in twosomes off the first tee, but as of now the event has been delayed at least three hours.
The PGA Tour announced that in the interest of safety, the course was closed to all fans and volunteers. The tour added that it would take some time to clean up from the damage.
Hunter Mahan birdied two of the last three holes on Friday to shoot a 6-under 65 and take a 2-stroke lead. He wasn't due to tee off until 1:40 p.m. (et) along with Brendon de Jonge, who was tied for second with Robert Garrigus and Jimmy Walker.
