More than $100,000 has been raised in a support fund for Feyisa Lilesa, the Rio marathoner who held up his arms in protest of injustice in his native Ethiopia.

The Olympic silver medalist made international headlines for his stance, suggesting he'd be killed when he returned home for using the solidarity gesture of the Oromo tribe - a group targeted in mass killings over the last several months.

An Ethiopian official came forward and said Lilesa would not be punished for his protest, but the runner apparently remains reluctant to return home.

The GoFundMe account (which bears his name, albeit misspelled) calls for Ethiopians and human rights advocates to support Lilesa and his family, as he's "decided to seek asylum" as a political refugee.

It's said an estimated 400 protesters in the Oromo region have been killed by the Ethiopian government, as well as thousands more injured, in less than a year.
