Andre De Grasse is on the podium once again, his star skyrocketing in Rio.

The breakout Canadian sprinter improved on his bronze-medal performance in the 100m, claiming silver in the 200m Thursday at Olympic Stadium.

De Grasse crossed the line at 20.02 seconds, becoming the first Canadian since 1928 to medal in the event at the Olympics, and just the third from his nation to take honors in both sprint events.

As has been the case throughout these Olympic Games, De Grasse was outclassed by the remarkable Usain Bolt, who was too many strides ahead of the field to exchange looks with the Canadian upstart, this time around.

There's absolutely no shame in losing to the greatest sprinter whose torn through an Olympic lane. And yet, De Grasse couldn't veil his disappointment after failing to chase down the Jamaican icon.

"I wanted to come here and challenge him for a gold medal," De Grasse said in his post-race interview with CBC's Scott Oake.

"It is what it is."

De Grasse admitted he may have exerted himself too much in his memorable semifinal stroll with Bolt, but vitality wasn't a concern leading into the final.

"I was ready. I was feeling pretty good," De Grasse said. "He just ran away from me and I couldn't catch him."

Bolt remains on pace for an unprecedented triple-triple, having dominated both sprint events in Rio. He'll sprint likely for the last time on the Olympic stage in the 4x100m relay final, with De Grasse expected to inherit a leg for Canada.
