Photographer finds stolen equipment on archery venue trespasser
A photographer who had $40,000 worth of equipment stolen earlier in the week in Rio, found his media vest on a man who illegally entered the Olympic archery venue Saturday.
According to Greg Wyshynski of Yahoo Sports, Brett Costello was entering the men's archery venue Saturday when he noticed a man behind him wearing the exact vest that was stolen from him, along with the equipment, earlier in the week.
The thief, who somehow was able to breach security without a media credential, was confronted and detained by police while Costello showed them video on his phone of the theft.
Costello was ordering coffee at a cafe earlier in the week, when he was approached by a woman seeking help. That distraction allowed her accomplices to pilfer his equipment and make off in a waiting getaway car.
"She was speaking to me for about 10 seconds, not long at all. I was in shock," Costello told the Daily Telegraph. "I couldn't believe it, I was later told there was a getaway car outside. They work in numbers and they're good at what they do unfortunately. I know I'll probably never see my bag or gear again."
Thankfully Costello's prediction wouldn't come true, and he would come face-to-face with some of his stolen gear just days later. Hopefully the apprehension of the man wearing his vest will lead to the discovery of the remainder of stolen items.
