Brandon Pirri: Traded to Ducks

Pirri (ankle) was acquired by the Ducks from Florida on Monday for a sixth-round draft pick, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.

Analysis:

Even disregarding the other prices paid at the trade deadline, Pirri -- a restricted free agent next year -- came dirt cheap, which is likely part of what motivated the Ducks to pull the trigger. A 22-goal scorer who notched just two assists last year, Pirri's brought some balance to the ol' scoring line this season (11 goals and 13 helpers), but the 24-year-old certainly hasn't taken the kind of step forward you'd hope to see from a guy who once put up 75 points in the AHL. He's missed six games so far to the ankle injury, but if the original projection of "a few weeks" holds true, he should get in action for Anaheim by mid-March. When he does, it'll be interesting to see if he gets a chance to make magic on one of the top two forward lines or the power play.
