'MVP' chants greet John Scott in 1st action since NHL All-Star Game

Aaron Doster-USA TODAY Sports

Two weeks after his incredible performance at the NHL All-Star Game in Nashville, the "MVP" chants continued for John Scott as he returned to the ice Saturday with the AHL's St. John's IceCaps in a 3-1 win over the Toronto Marlies.

"It was nerve-racking," Scott told Charles Dart from NHL.com of the crowd who cheered every time he touched the puck. "Obviously I wanted to do well and play well for the fans. It was cool to have the chants and stuff like that to know the fans are behind me."

Also eight days removed from the birth of twin daughters, it's been a whirlwind couple of weeks for the enforcer, but he took to Instagram on Friday to share he was ready to get "back to work."

Unlike the 3-on-3 tournament in Nashville, Scott was held off the scoresheet Saturday, but the 33-year-old is hopeful he's shed the rust en route to a better showing Sunday for a rematch against the Marlies.

"I was not good, but the good thing about hockey is that not everybody has to be good. We won the game and that's what matters," Scott said. "I haven't even skated in probably a week and a half. It was tough. I wasn't that great tonight; I'll be better tomorrow afternoon. But it felt good to get out there with the guys and cruise around."
