Dustin Byfuglien: Signs five-year extension

Byfuglien signed a five-year contract extension with the Jets on Monday that will net him an average of $7.6 million per year.

Analysis:

The 30-year-old Byfuglien remains one of the premier offensive blueliners in the league, as he's posted 32 points (15 goals, 17 assists) on the campaign. The former eighth-round pick has greatly exceeded expectations from when he was drafted in 2003, and the perennial All-Star will now stay in Winnipeg late into his career. With contract talks now behind him, Byfuglien can set his focuses on the success of the team, and doesn't have to worry about playing for a new contract after the season.
