For the first time in a long time, approving chants reverberated throughout Bell Centre on Saturday.

Tomas Plekanec collected four points and Ben Scrivens made 23 saves versus his former club as the Montreal Canadiens won in regulation for the first time in a month, defeating the Edmonton Oilers 5-1.

Montreal's win snapped a five-game home losing streak and marked the first victory for Scrivens since being acquired from Edmonton in exchange for Zack Kassian.

He said this about his exit from Edmonton following the victory:

Connor McDavid was held off the scoresheet for the first time since returning from his broken clavicle, but did earn applause from the Bell Centre patrons for an outstanding individual effort late in the contest.

Benoit Pouliot - also meeting a former team - spoiled Scrivens' chance at a shutout, scoring a beautiful shorthanded goal early in the third.

P.K. Subban hit the 40-point plateau with an assist on Brendan Gallagher's opening goal, before scoring just his fifth of the season late in the second period.
