Murphy adds some much needed depth on the blue line with Brett Pesce (lower body) going on injured reserve. The 22-year-old has not played for Carolina since Dec. 3 and has just four points in 18 contests this season. In the AHL, the defenseman has been significantly more productive, garnering four tallies and 11 helpers in only 20 outings.
