McKenzie: 'Starting to think' Dion Phaneuf could be dealt before deadline

At least one hockey insider - and a Hall of Fame level one at that - seems to think that Dion Phaneuf could soon be suiting up for another NHL team.

Phaneuf was the center of much trade speculation at this time last year, with the Detroit Red Wings believed to be hot in pursuit. Nothing came of it, leaving Toronto with the $7-million cap hit on the defenseman's contract, which runs through to the end of 2020-21.
The 30-year-old has recorded three goals and 21 assists in 51 games for the Maple Leafs this season.
The NHL's trade deadline is set for 3 p.m. EST on Feb. 29.
