This was a lesson learned by Jeff Carter of the Los Angeles Kings on Friday after he slashed the Pittsburgh Penguins star center on the leg while killing a penalty, sparking a melee that included the likes of Sidney Crosby, and Phil Kessel.

In the end, Carter and Malkin each drew minor penalties for slashing, while Brayden McNabb earned two minutes in the box for roughing.
