Philadelphia Flyers forward Sam Gagner suffered more than just a cut near his eye during a Nov. 23 contest against the Carolina Hurricanes.

After sitting out the team's last six games with an upper-body injury, the 26-year-old told reporters Monday that the incident in question not only left him with a cut, but also with his his first concussion in the NHL.

Gagner's face hit the ice after he was checked into the boards by an opposing forward.

Gagner's been placed on injured reserve in order to open up a roster spot for defenseman Andrew MacDonald, according to Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer.

He continues to skate with the team and is hopeful that he will return to game action next week. Gagner has two goals and five points in 18 games.
