Lightning's Bishop suffers freak injury scare after taking stick through mask

Goaltender Ben Bishop left the Tampa Bay Lightning's game Saturday against the San Jose Sharks in the third period after taking a stick through his mask on a freak play.

Bishop, who stopped 24 of 26 shots he faced in 48 minutes, left the ice with a towel near his eye, clearly shaken up on the play.

The good news: the goaltender was reportedly in good spirits after the game, so it appears the Lightning dodged a bullet.

"Just a scare," said Steven Stamkos, according to the Tampa Bay Times' Joe Smith. Coach Jon Cooper echoed Stamkos' assessment but said he didn't know if Bishop would be available Sunday.

Andrei Vasilevskiy took over in the crease, with the Lightning leading 4-2. He allowed one goal to Brent Burns - not that he had any chance of stopping it - and the Lightning held on for a 4-3 win.
