A costly error but a miraculous recovery by Antti Niemi helped the Dallas Stars walk away with a 3-2 shootout win over the Vancouver Canucks on Friday.

Midway through the 3-on-3 overtime period, Niemi received a puck dumped towards him and, trying to get the jump on the opposition, he immediately fired the puck up the ice, where things went wrong.

The 32-year-old was forced to sprawl to make a save on defenseman Dan Hamhuis to keep the extra period going.

Tyler Seguin's lone goal in the shootout would complete the win for the Stars.

The Canucks salvaged a point thanks to the continued brilliance of the Sedin twins. Henrik and Daniel combined to score another pretty goal with under five minutes remaining in the third period to knot the game at 2-2.

Jamie Benn added a goal, extending his point streak to seven games. Meanwhile defenseman John Klingberg chipped in with two assists to push his point streak to five games and give him a two-point cushion on the defensemen scoring race.
