Hyped Hellebuyck leads Jets to win in 1st start

Marilyn Indahl / USA TODAY Sports

Connor Hellebuyck fell short of the extraordinary Friday in his NHL debut versus the Minnesota Wild, but the Winnipeg Jets' top prospect provided every save his team would need in a 3-1 win.

Hellebuyck made 14 stops - beaten just once on a puck that bounced off a defender's shin pad - to help the Jets snap out of their recent sluggishness with a third win over the last 10 games.

Mathieu Perreault, Dustin Byfuglien, and Nikolaj Ehlers were the goal-scorers on Devan Dubnyk, who faced 29 shots in another spirited tilt between Central Division opponents.

Winnipeg is back up to the .500 mark with the two points in hand, just one point behind Minnesota for the second wild-card spot out West.
