Report: Strome nearing recall to Islanders

Ed Mulholland-USA TODAY Sports

Ryan Strome's Nov. 6 demotion to the AHL's Bridgeport Sound Tigers seemed inevitable given how his season started, with just one goal in 12 games. What's been surprising, though, is how long his stay in the minors has been.

But with the New York Islanders losing six of their last 10, head coach Jack Capuano admits the team could use the 22-year-old's services.

"He's getting better," Capuano said, according to Laura Albanese of Newsday. "That will be (general manager) Garth (Snow)'s decision, but obviously you can't lose sight of a right shot ... that's put up the numbers that he put up last year. That's something that we're lacking right now, so we'll see how it goes here over the next game or two for us.

"He's playing better and better every game."

The forward broke out last season with 17 goals and 50 points in his first full NHL season. He has three points and is a plus-3 in seven games with Bridgeport.

The Islanders host the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday before back-to-back visits to the Florida Panthers and Tampa Bay Lightning beginning Friday.
