Since Roy, a former Avalanche goalie, played for 19 years in the NHL and is in the Hall of Fame, we feel confident about his goalie assessments, even when it concerns an injury. However, even if Varlamov proves fit to play Monday, it has yet to be determined whether he will start in that game. He hasn't stopped pucks since Nov. 5 and Reto Berra has served between the pipes in the meantime.
