Alex Steen scored the only goal of the shootout to lead the St. Louis Blues to a thrilling 3-2 win over the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday.

The 31-year-old picked up an assist on both of the Blues' goals, giving him eight goals and nine assists in 20 games this season.

Vladimir Tarasenko was a prime contributor once again, scoring a goal and an assist. He almost ended the game on a breakaway in overtime, but hit the post. The 23-year-old now has 12 goals and eight assists in 20 games this season.

Jake Allen continued his solid play and improved his record to 9-4-0 with a 32-save victory.

Sam Reinhart and Ryan O'Reilly scored for the Sabres, who fell to 8-9-2 on the season. They outshot the Blues 34-29, but failed to beat Allen in the shootout.

Buffalo will face another tough test when it travels to Dallas to take on the Stars on Saturday, the same night St. Louis will look to improve its 13-6-1 record as it hosts the Detroit Red Wings.
