Stars' Spezza spoils Ovechkin's milestone night

Alex Ovechkin finally notched his 484th career goal, but it was Jason Spezza's eighth goal of the season that was the difference, as the Dallas Stars edged the Washington Capitals 3-2.

After going four games without a goal, Ovechkin finally eclipsed fellow Russian Sergei Fedorov to become the highest-scoring Russian in NHL history, doing so in 471 fewer games than the new Hall of Famer played in his career.

Ovechkin's goal knotted the game at 2-2, but just four minutes later Spezza picked off a flip pass by Jason Chimera and rifled the puck under the glove of goaltender Philipp Grubauer.

The Stars also got goals from Tyler Seguin, who extended his point streak to five games, and Cody Eakin. Nicklas Backstrom had the other marker for the Capitals.

With the win the Stars extended their winning streak to four games, and now have a five point cushion on the Nashville Predators for the top spot in the Western Conference.
