Maple Leafs' Reimer leaves practice early with 'some aches and pains'

Goaltender James Reimer left practice early Tuesday, but the Toronto Maple Leafs aren't saying why.

Reimer took "an awkward fall during drills," according to Sportsnet's Chris Johnston, and spoke with trainers before leaving 25 minutes into the session. He didn't return.

Head coach Mike Babcock didn't seem too concerned, as he didn't check on the status of his new No. 1 goalie.

"We have a while until our next game," he said. "I don't know nothing about it."

Toronto's off until Saturday, when the Washington Capitals will come to town.

Reimer was at The Hospital for Sick Children with some of his teammates for the club's annual visit, and TSN's Mark Masters caught up with him.

"We'll see what happens," Reimer said. "I'm not too worried about it so we'll see how she goes."

He added that he's suffering from "just some aches and pains."

The Maple Leafs practice again Friday, and Reimer's status will certainly be the focus. If he can't play Saturday, Jonathan Bernier will get another shot in the crease.

Reimer's responsible for all seven of Toronto's wins, while Bernier is winless in eight games - an overtime loss his only contribution in the standings.

"(Bernier's) a good goaltender, he's been a good goaltender and I'm sure he will be again," Babcock said.

Reimer ranks fourth in the league with a .934 save percentage.
