Penguins' Maatta remains in hospital

Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Olli Maatta remains in hospital after being shoved into an open door at the Minnesota Wild bench Tuesday night.

The Penguins announced Wednesday morning that he stayed for observation for an upper-body injury suffered on the play.

Potential damage to any internal organs is no longer a major concern, reports Dave Molinari of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, but TSN's Bob McKenzie reports that muscle damage to his midsection could establish a week-to-week timetable for a return.

Maatta was propelled side-first into the doorway by Wild forward Nino Niederreiter as he tried to slip around a check after releasing the puck. He was down for several moments before exiting through the Wild's tunnel.

Niederreiter will reportedly avoid discipline.
