Report: NHL to review Zack Smith's hit on Derek Stepan

Marc DesRosiers / USA TODAY Sports

Ottawa Senators forward Zack Smith may be called to further account for his actions during Saturday's game against the New York Rangers.

Smith caught Derek Stepan with a high hit that briefly knocked the Rangers forward out of the game, earning him both an interference minor and a round of fisticuffs with Chris Kreider.

The NHL's Department of Player Safety will review the hit to see if it requires a hearing for potential supplemental discipline, reports Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun.

Stepan reportedly underwent and passed a concussion test before returning for the third period.
