Hammond's McDonalds 'for life' is actually just $1,000 in coupons

Marc DesRosiers / USA TODAY Sports

Roughly 100 Big Mac meals hardly constitutes McDonald's "for life."

But as it turns out, that's all Andrew Hammond will receive as a result of last year's "Hamburglar" craze, as the fast-food chain delivered (not quite) on its promise by forking over $1,000 worth of coupons to the Ottawa Senators goaltender this week.

He's not beaten up over the fast food chain's reneging, though.

"Hey, they didn't need to do anything," Hammond told Don Brennan of the Ottawa Sun. "In fairness, (the art) was put on in all good fun ... if there was a copyright or trademark, I don't even know, but if they wanted to they could put up a big stink, and they've been great about it.

"They gave fans free McDonald's last year so what else can you ask for?"
