Richards out for Red Wings with back injury

Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports

Brad Richards won't play Friday night.

The Detroit Red Wings center is dealing with a back injury, head coach Jeff Blashill said, according to MLive.com's Ansar Khan. Richards will miss his team's game against the Calgary Flames, after being unable to practice for the second straight day.

Richards is considered day to day, according to Blashill. However, general manager Ken Holland said the injury is more serious, according to the Detroit Free Press' Helene St. James, and that Richards will be sent back to Detroit for tests.

Richards has two assists in six games, in this is first season as a Red Wing.

Expect Joakim Andersson to center the fourth line, the club announced.
