Mason to miss Flyers' home opener due to family matter

Robert Mayer / USA TODAY Sports

The Philadelphia Flyers will be without goaltender Steve Mason for Monday's home opener versus the Florida Panthers due to a personal family matter, the team announced.

Mason, who was shelled for four goals on eight shots by the Panthers on Saturday, will have to wait for his chance at redemption.

Michal Neuvirth will get the start, the first of his career for the winless Flyers, while Jason LaBarbera has been called up from the American Hockey League.
