Semyon Varlamov will get the start in net Saturday against the Stars

Varlamov will get the start in net Saturday against the Stars, Mike Chambers of The Denver Post reports.

Analysis:

Varlamov had a rough time in Colorado's Thursday night season opener against the Wild, allowing five goals on 30 shots en route to a 5-4 loss. Head coach Patrick Roy told reporters Saturday that most of the goals were the result of poor defensive play, rather than poor goaltending, which is why he's opted to stick with the 27-year-old Varlamov Saturday against Dallas. Varlamov will hope to submit a bounce back performance Saturday, but if he struggles again, the Avalanche will have to consider giving backup Reto Berra more opportunities going forward.
