There's a bit of a surprise addition to the Columbus Blue Jackets' new-look leadership group.

Boone Jenner was named an alternate captain to Nick Foligno on Thursday, and will wear the letter alongside returning subordinate Brandon Dubinsky.

"I've talked about the engine under the hood, well those guys provide a lot of the horsepower for our team," Blue Jackets head coach Todd Richards told Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch.

"There are other guys who do it, too, but those guys - day in and day out, especially in practice - they are the two guys who are always going. You're always looking for your leaders to drive it, and they help drive it."

Jenner, who's entering his third professional season, got the nod over veterans Scott Hartnell and Jack Johnson and top-line forwards Ryan Johansen and Brandon Saad.

Johnson, Jared Boll, and Mark Letestu also wore letters for Columbus last season.
