The St. Louis Blues have signed Scott Gomez to a one-year, two-way contract.

He'll earn an NHL rate of $575,000 and $200,000 in the AHL, in addition to potential bonuses, according to Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

"He gives us really good insurance that if something happens to one of our top two centers, he can go in there," Blues general manager Doug Armstrong said.

Gomez notched 34 points in 58 games with the New Jersey Devils last season.

The 35-year-old forward has 747 points in 1,045 career games with the Devils, New York Rangers, Montreal Canadiens, San Jose Sharks, and Florida Panthers.

He won the Calder Trophy as the NHL's top rookie in 2000, and won Stanley Cup championships with the Devils in 2000 and 2003.

The Blues placed forward Patrik Berglund on long-term injured reserve earlier Wednesday. He's expected to miss four months with a shoulder injury.
