Wilson cleared waivers and will be headed to AHL Portland on Tuesday, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.

Analysis:

The Panthers were thinking of keeping him as the 23rd player on the team just in case, but didn't want to use him as a healthy scratch night-in and night-out, so chose to assign him to AHL Portland to play regularly. Wilson spent the majority of last season in the AHL, scoring 23 goals and 15 assists in 71 games. He also played in two NHL games last season, posting a minus-2 rating. Wilson should be one of the first forwards called up when injury strikes as the 24-year-old looks too good to stay in the AHL for too long.
