The Minnesota Wild have assigned defenseman Mike Reilly to their AHL affiliate in Iowa.

The Wild signed Reilly to a two-year entry-level contract in June.

The 22-year-old opted not to sign with the Columbus Blue Jackets after being drafted 98th overall by the team in 2011. He spent three years at the University of Minnesota, notching 42 points in 39 games last season.

The Wild also placed Justin Fontaine on injured reserve retroactive to Sept. 24, placed Jordan Schroeder on waivers, and designated Grayson Downing as an injured non-roster player.

Fontaine practiced Tuesday. The Wild open the regular season Thursday against the Colorado Avalanche in Denver.
