San Jose Sharks forward Raffi Torres has been suspended, pending a discipline hearing, for his hit to the head of Anaheim Ducks forward Jakob Silfverberg, according to TSN's Darren Dreger.

Torres was handed a match penalty in second period of the Sharks' 5-1 preseason loss to the Ducks on Saturday night.

Torres has been assessed four previous suspensions by the NHL, and although he isn't a repeat offender by the league's standards, his history will still reportedly be taken into account.

After Saturday's game, Ducks head coach Bruce Boudreau told Curtis Zupke of the Los Angeles Times that Silfverberg was fine, and that the forward was held out for precautionary reasons.
