Brian Gionta will continue wearing the "C" for the Buffalo Sabres.

The 36-year-old forward will remain the captain of the Sabres this season, head coach Dan Bylsma said Sunday.

Gionta also held the position in 2014-15, his first with Buffalo after signing a three-year deal with the Sabres in the summer of 2014. He is one of only six players on Buffalo's roster over the age of 30.

The veteran of 13 NHL campaigns collected 13 goals and 22 assists last season.

He also played five seasons with the Montreal Canadiens, and parts of seven years with the New Jersey Devils, who made him a third-round pick in 1998.

Gionta has 520 points in 845 career games.
