Carolina, goalie Lack agree to 2-year contract extension

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) The Carolina Hurricanes and goalie Eddie Lack have agreed to a two-year contract extension.

The deal announced Saturday will pay Lack $2.5 million next season and $3 million in 2017-18. He is entering the final year of a deal that will pay him $1.3 million this season.

Lack spent the preseason competing with Cam Ward for the starting position in goal for the Hurricanes. Lack was acquired in a trade with Vancouver during the NHL draft.

General manager Ron Francis says the Hurricanes ''have a very solid tandem in net for this season'' and are ''excited that Eddie will remain a part of that picture beyond this year.''
