Andrew Ladd will consider ceasing contract talks to avoid distraction

The posturing continues in Winnipeg.

Jets captain Andrew Ladd, who's an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season, told Gary Lawless of the Winnipeg Free Press on Thursday that he will consider ceasing contract talks completely if the two sides are unable to reach an agreement before the start of the season.

"My contract and the business part of things can't become a distraction to me or to my teammates. So setting it aside once the season starts is something we'll have to discuss," he said.

He might be bluffing, sure, but if Ladd does decide to discontinue talks, he will be that much closer to reaching the open market.

Ladd scored 24 goals and a career-high 62 points last season, helping to muddle his market value which was already difficult to discern given his age and role inside the Jets room.
