The Dallas Stars have locked up key depth forward Cody Eakin.

The club has come to terms on a four-year contract extension with Eakin, general manager Jim Nill announced Friday. The deal is worth $15.4 million, according to Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News.

The 24-year-old is entering the final year of his current deal, which carries a cap hit of $1.9 million. As of 2016-17, Eakin's average annual valuation will rise to $3.85 million.

"Cody is a well-rounded player and has the versatility to play in a number of roles," said Nill. "He has the ability to shut down (an) opponent's top players, win faceoffs and kill penalties, all while producing offensively. Cody has been an important part of our team and will continue to be a part of our core for the next five seasons."

Eakin appeared in 78 games for the Stars last season, scoring 19 goals and adding 21 assists with a Corsi For rating of 50.1 at even strength. He also contributed five points in his six career playoff appearances in 2014.

The new deal puts Eakin in line to be the club's sixth-highest-paid forward beginning next season.
