Free agent Salvador talks with Devils GM, though future remains uncertain

Veteran defenseman Bryce Salvador, who missed the final 67 games of the 2014-15 season due to a bulging disc and nerve damage in his back, has had discussions with the New Jersey Devils about a possible reunion, but has not committed to a return to the NHL ranks.

Salvador, 39, recently had a "great general conversation" with Devils GM Ray Shero, he told Tom Gulitti of Fire and Ice, but provided no update on his status for the upcoming season.

Earlier this summer, Salvador said he was skating and training as if he would play again, adding he'd be willing to accept a training camp tryout with the Devils or any other team.

Shero, who's steering the team in a younger direction, tapped the brakes on making a determination about Salvador's future with the club.

"He has to be healthy enough to try to continue his career. That's No. 1," Shero said.

Salvador has split his career between the Devils and St. Louis Blues, recording 24 goals and 86 assists in 786 games since entering the league in 2000.
