Bergeron has 'a lot of trust' in Bruins' new management, puts onus on players

Amid all the changes in Beantown, Patrice Bergeron remains a constant.

As the longest serving member of the Boston Bruins, Bergeron has seen all of the franchises highs and lows over the past decade or so, with this summer's front office shake up and subsequent roster moves marking a fairly big transition for the black and gold.

Four years removed from a Stanley Cup win and two from another trip to the final, Bergeron believes in management and the new-look roster.

"I have a lot of trust in (general manager) Don (Sweeney) and the management group," he told Joe Haggerty of CSN. "We brought in a bunch of guys that were excited to be here, want to be here and have a lot of talent as well ... a lot of young guys as well with prospects and whatnot. I’m looking forward to it, and I’m excited."

In terms of whether he sees a return to the playoffs after a down year, Bergeron - who took home another Selke Trophy despite the team's lapse - puts the onus on the players to get the job done.

"You’ve got to have high expectations for yourself, and high expectations for the team," said Bergeron. "I’ve got a lot of trust in the guys that we’re bringing in, and a lot of trust in (the guys coming back).

"As players we have to be honest, and know that individually we didn’t have good years last year. We have to be better. If we do that then it’s going to happen, and we’ll be a better team."

However things play out in Boston next season, count on Bergeron being part of the solution, and not the problem.
