Dainius Zubrus on pending release from Devils: It's the 'NHL or nothing'

Ed Mulholland / USA TODAY Sports

The purpose remains for Dainius Zubrus.

The 18-year veteran, placed on waivers by the New Jersey Devils for the purpose of buying him out of his contract, has just one motive in prolonging his playing career.

The Cup.

"It's the NHL or nothing," Zubrus said to Rich Chere of NJ Advance Media.

"Honestly, I still dream of winning the Stanley Cup," he added. "That dream is still there. When summertime training gets tough, I push myself hoping that it will happen. I hope to be on a team that makes a good run and gives me a chance."

Zubrus, who told reporters that he holds no ill will against the franchise he's chased the ultimate goal with for the last eight seasons, is expected to clear waivers at noon Thursday.

He can begin negotiating with potential suitors then.
