Ex-Leaf Sergei Berezin arrested in Florida for fraud

Former Toronto Maple Leafs forward Sergei Berezin is one of four Russian immigrants who were arrested in Florida for defrauding Medicaid, reports the PostMedia Network.

He and his wife, Lyudmila Ustakova, were jailed Tuesday morning and are facing two charges for allegedly paying a Florida-based company to acquire Medicaid and food stamps – benefits they're ineligible for.

Berezin appeared in 357 games for the Leafs from 1996 to 2001, scoring 126 goals and 220 points, before brief stints with the Chicago Blackhawks, Montreal Canadiens, Phoenix Coyotes, and Washington Capitals.
