Bouwmeester: 'I didn't really feel like myself' after groin injury that ended streak

St. Louis Blues defenseman Jay Bouwmeester admits he never fully recovered from the groin injury that ended his consecutive-games streak last November.

"I didn't really feel like myself for a good part of the year," Bouwmeester told Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "I didn't have a very good year especially after that happened."

Bouwmeester missed eight games with the injury after appearing in 737 straight contests, an NHL record for defensemen. He set the record by playing his 496th consecutive game in 2011.

The 12-year veteran returned to action and posted 13 points in 72 games. He finished second to Alex Pietrangelo in average time-on-ice for the Blues, logging 22:40.

Bouwmeester told Rutherford he feels fine and has been skating this summer.

"You work on it over the summer and try to get back to where you were," he said. "I'm feeling pretty good now."
