The Colorado Avalanche named Dave Farrish as an assistant coach on Tuesday.

Farrish will join Patrick Roy's staff that already includes assistant coach Tim Army.

"Dave brings a wealth of experience and hockey knowledge to our organization," Roy said. "He is the ideal candidate to compliment our coaching staff and we look forward to working together to make our team as competitive as we can."

The 58-year-old Farrish has 25 years of coaching experience in the AHL, IHL, and ECHL, and was recently an assistant with the Toronto Maple Leafs from 2012-14.

Colorado also announced the hiring of Brett Heimlich as video coordinator.
