Red Wings sign Brendan Smith to 2-year contract worth reported $5.5M

The Detroit Red Wings announced the signing of defenseman Brendan Smith to a two-year contract Tuesday.
Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports the deal's worth $2.75 million per season.
Smith, a scrappy 26-year-old blue-liner, recorded 13 points in 76 games for the Red Wings last season.
The former first-round pick in the 2007 draft also earned 68 penalty minutes.
