Brian Boyle not bothered by MSG mystique: 'What am I doing here if I buy it?'

Kim Klement / USA TODAY Sports

Brian Boyle isn't buying the belief that the New York Rangers are unbeatable on home ice.

The Tampa Bay Lightning forward, who spent the past four postseasons trying to help the Rangers in their push for a Stanley Cup, said Thursday it hardly would have been worth the trip to New York for Game 7 if he did.

"What am I doing here if I buy it?" he asked. "Why did I fly up from Florida?"

There's fair reason for the question to be asked, seeing as the Rangers are 7-0 in Game 7 situations within the friendly confines of Madison Square Garden.

Still, the Lightning remain unfazed.

The Lightning have won a Game 7 already this postseason, taking out the Detroit Red Wings in the opening round. The Rangers needed seven games to eliminate the Washington Capitals in round two, winning the deciding game on home ice.

Tampa Bay is certainly hoping it was well worth the trip from Florida, with the Chicago Blackhawks or Anaheim Ducks up next on the itinerary.
