The Columbus Blue Jackets have swiftly taken care of one of their pending unrestricted free agents, signing defenseman Cody Goloubef to a two-year contract extension Thursday.

Like many Blue Jackets, Goloubef suffered an early season injury, but showed promise over the final few months. He recorded six assists and boasted a plus-10 rating over the final six weeks of the season, forming one of the team's more effective defense pairings alongside Kevin Connauton.

"Cody is a mobile, puck-moving defenseman who makes good decisions on the ice and we're excited about his future as a Blue Jacket," general manager Jarmo Kekalainen said via the team's official website.

"He has shown steady improvement in his game and we believe there is more room for growth in the coming years."

Goloubef owns 53 games of NHL experience, jumping back and forth between the Blue Jackets and Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League since being drafted in the second round back in 2008.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but it's reportedly a one-way deal worth $1.5 million, according to the Columbus Dispatch's Aaron Portzline.
