The St. Louis Blues didn't land Mike Babcock, but they did make a front-office move Wednesday.

The Blues have promoted Martin Brodeur to assistant general manager and signed him to a three-year contract. The move was first reported by Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

"I think it's a great opportunity," Brodeur said. "I had a little taste last season being around (general manager) Doug (Armstrong) and the organization and really enjoyed myself, so this opportunity is definitely something I'm really excited about."

Brodeur was named an advisor to Armstrong after ending his playing career in January.

"We had a lot of good conversations since the season (ended)," Brodeur said. "I'm committed to doing the work and (learning) as much as I can."

The 43-year-old won three Stanley Cups in 21 seasons with the New Jersey Devils. He signed with the Blues on a one-year deal last December, appearing in seven games.

Last week, the future Hall of Famer said it was not likely he would return to the Devils organization in the next few years.

Brodeur retired as the NHL's all-time leader in wins by a goaltender with 691 and shutouts with 125.
