Report: Adam Oates joins Randy Carlyle in coaching talks with Sharks

The coaching scramble continues.

With most of the news around the NHL concerning the Edmonton Oilers' hire of Todd McLellan and the bidding war for Mike Babcock between the Detroit Red Wings, Buffalo Sabres and Toronto Maple Leafs, other available coaching spots may have been forgotten.

TSN's Darren Dreger shed some light Wednesday on the coaching vacancy left by McLellan with the San Jose Sharks.

The Randy Carlyle conversation comes as no surprise, as the two parties spoke in late April, but the addition of Adam Oates into the mix is new.

Carlyle spent 40 games with the Maple Leafs in 2014-15, earning a record of 21-16-3 before his dismissal.

Oates shared bench duties with Scott Stevens - and Lou Lamoriello, at times - in New Jersey after the Devils fired Peter DeBoer in December.
