Ovechkin credits Lundqvist for Rangers' comeback: 'We deserve (a) better result'

Alex Ovechkin did all he could to lift the Washington Capitals over the New York Rangers in Game 7 of their second-round series Wednesday night.

Ovechkin opened the scoring in the first period, giving his team a 1-0 lead. Unfortunately, one goal's about all anyone scores on Henrik Lundqvist in Game 7s, and the Rangers would eventually win 2-1 in overtime, thanks to Derek Stepan's - and notably Lundqvist's - heroics.

The Capitals, who blew a 3-1 series lead, were left looking for answers after another crushing postseason defeat.

"Great battle," a disappointed Ovechkin said after the game, his guarantee the Capitals would win Game 7 a distant memory. "Two teams play hard, and, in overtime, you know, one shot, one moment ... I think we played great in OT, we had good chances, but ... one moment can end the series and end the game. It's over, and I wish (New York) luck."

It was hard for Ovechkin to not wonder what might have been, especially considering the Capitals had the Rangers on the ropes in overtime in Game 5 in New York.

"If you look back, we were so close to finishing the series here," Ovechkin said. "And looking back, I don't think we played bad, we (gave) up everything, you know, it's, I don't know what to say. It's tough, it's a tough situation."

In the end, Ovechkin said it came down to Lundqvist.

"We tried to dominate them, we tried to play physical. Obviously, Lundqvist was very good (Wednesday) and the last couple of games," No. 8 said. "I don't think anybody could put the finger on someone else. We have a great team, and we deserve (a) better result."
