Rich Peverley reportedly received some encouraging news that could enable him to pursue a potential return to the NHL.

Peverley's agent told TSN's Bob McKenzie that Peverley may be ready to consider a comeback.

The Dallas Stars forward collapsed during a game against the Columbus Blue Jackets in March 2014.

Peverley is still under contract with the Stars, but that deal expires on June 30.

The 32-year-old center still needs to see more doctors, Roy told McKenzie, but Peverley could become an unrestricted free agent this summer if he clears medical and insurance obstacles.

Peverley's heart stopped while he was on the bench in the third period of the Stars' game against the Blue Jackets at American Airlines Arena last season. The game was postponed and later completed.

He was ruled out for the season and not played since.
