Flyers' return on Kimmo Timonen increases after Blackhawks' series clincher

The Philadelphia Flyers found the proper home for Kimmo Timonen.

Having punched their ticket to the Western Conference Final, the Chicago Blackhawks' conditional fourth-round selection used, in part, to acquire the veteran blue-liner has been upgraded to a third-rounder, according to reports at the time of the deal.

Should Chicago advance to the Stanley Cup final - and Timonen continue to feature in Joel Quenneville's lineup - the compensation will improve to a second-round pick, landing the Flyers both the Blackhawks' 2015 and 2016 Round 2 selections in the transaction.

The Blackhawks will gladly accept the trade-off for a chance to compete for a third Cup in six seasons, but the deal must also be considered a sizable victory for the Flyers.

The 36-year-old, who appeared in just 16 games this season after being diagnosed with blood clots in the summer, has been entrusted with more than 212 fewer minutes than the Blackhawks' leading logger, Duncan Keith, and saw just three shifts in the third period of Game 4 despite Michal Rozsival's injury.
